Boxabl, a high-growth startup company that builds foldable and easily transportable homes, last week unveiled a two-story version of its chic and affordable, factory-built product at the International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Las Vegas.

Elon Musk helped bring massive attention to Boxabl’s unique homebuilding innovations by confirming in an interview that he owned one of the company’s basic 375-square-foot Casita models, which is parked on the campus of SpaceX, the billionaire’s Texas-based rocket company.

Boxabl’s two-story home that was featured at IBS in Las Vegas contains two bedrooms, a master suite, two and a half baths, an elegant spiral staircase, and an outdoor patio on the second floor. The model home attracted online influencers Ellie in Space and Kerry Tarnow, as well as Fox 5 Las Vegas, who all gave highly favorable reviews of its design and functionality.

The company’s basic Casita model measures 20-foot by 20-foot with a layout similar to a studio apartment, including a bathroom, kitchen, living room and bed. The entire home ships as an eight-foot-wide container. It’s energy efficient, structurally sound and boasts hurricane-wind ratings.

Boxabl’s two co-founders, a father and son duo named Tiramani and Paolo Tiramani, are on a mission to make housing more affordable, with an entry-level single-story home priced at around $60,000. Already, the company has a wait list of 160,000 buyers, and has delivered 156 homes to the Department of Defense. Another shipment of 176 units were recently delivered to serve as employee housing for Pronghorn Group, a mining company with operations in Bagdad, Arizona.

“The reception for our IBS 2023 display was exciting,” Galiano Tiramani said. “It was a great opportunity to showcase our building system and demonstrate its endless possibilities. We’re grateful for the attention and recognition we received and look forward to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for the future of home building.”

Backed by Zain Jaffer, the successful entrepreneur and founder of San Francisco-based Vungle, which was acquired for $750 million in cash by Blackstone Group in 2019, Boxabl raised a record-breaking $75 million in crowdfunding on StartEngine. The company also announced a partnership with leading homebuilder D.R. Horton that includes an order for 100 units as well as a strategic investment in Boxabl.

“They know about houses better than I do,” Tiramani said of D.R. Horton. “And they don’t want to build in the traditional manner if there’s a better way.”

Boxabl’s foldable architecture solves the single biggest limitation that has plagued the manufactured housing industry until now – the problem of getting pre-built houses from Point A (the factory) to Point B (the homesite).

The company’s building system is revolutionizing the construction industry with innovative modular designs and energy-efficient materials, changing the way homes are built. Boxabl’s technology and construction methods are faster, more affordable, and enable sustainable building practices.

Ninety percent of the housing market is still site-building the traditional way, with hammer and nails in the sun and rain. Tiramani said Boxabl plans to convert existing contractors into customers for its building systems which are produced under more tightly controlled conditions.

Boxabl just completed construction of a second manufacturing plant in Las Vegas, which is expected to begin production later this year. Additional products and models to come include new sizes such as 20 feet by 30 feet, 20 feet by 40 feet and 20 feet by 60 feet, with new capabilities to stack and connect the modules.
